NCFIC Love the Church Conference: Day 1

Last Thursday, we left at 6:30 am to drive to the Love the Church conference put on by NCFIC. We had to get there a few hours before the conference started so that Rachel could set up the Reforming to Scripture Book table, and also Joshua and I had to go to a volunteers meeting. The first message was around 5:00 pm. Mr. Brown had each of the keynote speakers come up on stage and give a summary of the messages they were going to preach. There were only a few keynotes the first night. I liked Mr. Phillips's message the first night, which was about the gates of Hades not prevailing against the church of God. Below are a few of the pictures from the conference.

Memorial Day 2010

Monday our church held our annual Memorial Day picnic at Mr. Brown's farm. About 1200 people came. It was a good time of honoring the veterans and preaching the gospel. My job was to take pictures, and here are a few of the 1000 I took.

Training and Admonition of the Lord Conference

This past weekend our church put on a Training and Admonition of the Lord Conference. The speakers were my father and Mr. Brown. The conference was designed specifically to help the people of our church, though others were invited.

The Lepore family from Massachusetts stayed with us for the week of the conference. We had a good time with them. I went with them to King's Mountain Battlefield on Thursday while my father was at a business meeting in Charlotte, and I will try to put up a post about that soon.

The conference started on Friday night with sessions for adults only, and the subject was chastening and the use of the rod, and religion in the home.

The conference went all day Saturday with the entire families attending. My father started with a message on Proverbs 4 speaking to the children about how they should be seeking wisdom and understanding while they are in their parents' house. The purpose of childhood is not to play, it is to have a time of learning without the responsibilities of providing for a family. Mr Brown came next with a message on Proverbs 31. He spoke on the qualifications and roles of godly women.

By this time we were already running late, so the session on preparing children for adulthood was merged with a Q and A time. After lunch, Mr Brown gave a message on how boys and girls should relate and then gave some time for questions. My father gave a message on how parents and children need to redeem the time. Last there came more time for questions.

One of the things my father mentioned in his speech on redeeming the time is that most people spend too much time and money going to collage to learn things that they will never use.

Here are some pictures that I took at the conference:

Reforming the Church - Family Integrated Church Life Conference

We went to a conference done by NCFIC last Saturday. First there was a message by Scott Brown on "The Implications of the Sufficiency of Scripture." This talk was about how we should apply the sufficiency of scripture. Then after that there was a talk by my dad on "Dealing with a Culture at War Against Church and Family." This was about how we need to resist the influences of the culture. Then Mr. Tsantles gave a talk about "Establishing Biblical Church Life." He talked about his experience of coming to a family integrated church. Then Mr. Churchill gave a talk on "The Role of Fathers in Church and Family Life." This talk was about what a father needs to do.

After that we ate lunch. After lunch Steve Breagy gave a talk on "The Discipleship of Children." This talk is about how to disciple your children in the family and the church. Then my dad did a talk on "Applying the Regulative Principle of Worship." In this talk he went through our church service, and told how each thing our church does is from the Bible. Then Mr. Brown finished up by doing a talk on "The Family's Relationship to the Church." This talk was about how the church relates to the family and how the family relates to the church. I enjoyed the conference very much. I did not have a favorite because I liked them all. We forgot to bring the camera, so we do not have any pictures from it.

Church Life Conference

A few weekends ago we went to an NCFIC conference at our church on church life. The speakers were Scott Brown, Jason Dohm, Steve Breagy and Daddy. Daddy spoke twice. In one message he went through our church service and explained the Biblical reasons for what we do. His other message was called, When Church and Culture Clash. He spoke a lot on the Sunday school movement, and one of his main points is that we have to obey God even when we think that we have better ideas.

Indiana Trip - Day 1

Last weekend we attended the Leadership Summit Conference in Indianapolis which is put on by CHEC (Christian Home Educators of Colorodo.) The speakers were Kevin Swanson, Doug Phillips, Voddie Baucham, and others. We left at 5 a.m. on Wednesday to drive up to Indiana with the Damings, Mr. Brown, David Brown, and the NCFIC Interns. We stopped in the afternoon in Northern Kentucky to see the conference center where the Browns are planning to have the NCFIC Sufficiency of Scripture Conference. It is a very nice facility, and it should be a great conference. After that we left at about 7:00 p.m. and we arrived at the Daming's house in Indiana. We ate some pizza there that we picked up on the way, and after a little while we went to bed. Here are a few pictures:

How the Church can Stengthen the Family Conference

This past weekend we had a NCFIC conference at our church called, How can the Church Strengthen the Family in the 21st Century. This was the biggest conference we did this year. We had several speakers in from out of town, including Kevin Swanson, Jeff Pollard and Bill Einwechter. Scott Brown, Steve Breagy, Jason Dohm and my father, the elders at our church, also spoke. About 300 people from all over the country attended.

My father gave two breakout messages, one on the Lord's Supper, and one on Family Worship. During his talk on Family Worship, he got so animated that people could here him in other rooms! Here are some pictures:

Kevin Swanson was one of my favorite speakers. He is a pastor from Colorado, and he is the leader of the homeschool group in that state. He is very active in his preaching. My favorite message that he gave was called Surviving Tough Economic Times. In that message he spoke on the current economic crisis, and his main point was that even though things are not going well, we should trust God and obey his commands regarding money. It was very good.

Bill Einwechter and some of his family stayed with us during the conference. He gave two messages on women in civil leadership. Here are two of his articles on the subject, on Women Magistrates, and What about Deborah.

Stephen and I helped David Brown to record the messages. Everyone who was on the recording staff had to wear a white shirt, black pants and a black bow-tie. I was in charge of one of the breakout rooms, and I also edited a lot of the messages. It was a lot of fun!

Washington Day 2

We slept in the boy's room at the Bradrick's house. Daddy got up at 4:40 am to work on his talk and I got up at 6:00 am. We got showered, ate breakfast and left at 6:55 am for the conference which was an hour away. The Browns, also, were staying at the Bradrick's house and went to the conference with the Bradrick's. We had to set up the building for the conference and then Scott Brown did the first talk at 9:00 am on Acts 20 about Paul's ministry and what we should learn from it. Then, after a ten minute break, Daddy did his talk on Samuel Rutherford which I had helped him prepare while traveling on both days. Then we had lunch which was sandwiches, tortilla chips, celery, carrots, and brownies. Then Scott Brown did a talk on Church Killers from James 3. Thirty minutes after it ended we had to get out of the building because the building needed to be cleaned up, so the men kept talking outside. Some people were offended by Daddy when he said that Arminianism was a heresy. Now we are on our way to the Bradricks to spend the night and get up early in the morning to drive to Seattle for a 7:00 am flight which will put us back at our house about 7:30 pm. Father Son Retreat - Day 2

Saturday morning, Daddy got up about at 5:30 (I don't think he actually slept) , I got up at 6:00, and Stephen got up about 6:45. Daddy went to the truck to work on his sermon, and I walked out to watch some of our friends from church fish. About 7:00 they served breakfast, which was french toast and sausage. It was very good! The first message was by Mr. Bradrick entitled "A Young Man's Roadmap for Victory." He spoke on how fathers need to train their sons to fight battles for God. I enjoyed it. After a short break, Mr. Brown gave another message on how sons should relate to girls in the church. Next Mr. Dohm spoke next on purity. These were all the messages for the morning. Here are some pictures:

Next we ate lunch, which was sloppy joes and potato chips. After we ate lunch, there was a time for the fathers and sons to be together and learn more about each other.

At 2:30, the games started! We were on the blue team. The first game was tug-a-war. It was the green team vs. the red team. It was really close, and each team won once. Then for some reason they decided to send us off the do different games, and then come back and finish the tug-a-war. This year we did "Highland" games, because we went to some in Scotland with Mr. Brown. First we did the tabor toss, and then we tried to throw a small rock from Iona, Scotland.

Me throwing the rock

After the Highland games, we finished the tug-a-war (which our team lost at) and did a canoe race, and another game where you had to catch water balloons in a tarp. It was a lot of fun, even though our team was not the best. After the games there was a little free time, in which Stephen and I went out in the canoes with a lot of other boys (and men) and tried to tip each other over.

After the tug-a-war

We had hamburgers for dinner, and after dinner Daddy gave a message on the spiritual, wisdom, and material inheritances that fathers should pass on to their children. It was a good message. After Daddy's message, we had ice-cream, and we went home late at night. I really enjoyed this father son retreat.
